In its 90 year history, the aquarium has housed and cared for hundreds of thousands of sea creatures, including moon jellyfish, beluga whales, Alaskan sea otters, pacific white-sided dolphins, green sea turtles, yellow spotted rays, and more. Designed to simulate a deep-sea experience, Shedd Aquarium's 5000-sq.-ft., newly renovated shop features a huge sculpted-fiberglass octopus whose tentacles are wrapped around columns and suspended from the ceiling. Opening its doors to the public on May 30, 1930, the Shedd Aquarium is one of the world’s longest operating indoor aquariums.
